Aberdare v Penderyn 0-1

4th April 2007

Aberdare v Penderyn 0-1

typical derby on a very hard surface, which made it extremely difficult for either side to play some good football on. Though in more recent weeks we have seen how capable both these sides are in playing open attractive football, football that has delighted their supporters. Over the first 85 minutes a draw looked inevitable, and that would have been a fair result. Both keepers were in superb shot stopping form - Gareth Davies (League's top goalkeeper) once again showing his class. Just as it looked like the game was going to fade out into a draw, Ian Jones (Striker), pounced on a cross from the right hand side of the pitch and delivered a powerful header into the top right hand corner of the net, giving the keeper absolutely no chance. It must be said though that Aberdare, did not have their best 11 players out for the game, we'll have to see how well they do in their next encounter!

Penderyn supporters said that they were delighted with the scoreline, but perhaps on reflection didn't really deserve to win in the end.

This win now takes Penderyn right to the top of the League!

Penderyn win against Pont

2nd April 2007

Where does one start, what an exceptional game of football, probably in the top five games of the season so far. The weather was against Penderyn first half, and as expected Pen went in at half time, 1 down. A more attacking formation came out for Pen for the start of the second half, with young star striker jimmy Thomas scoring on 46 minutes with a 20 yard effort that flew past the keeper into the back of the net. The next 20 minutes was a real struggle for both teams, both strikers went very close on three occasions, if it wasnt for the acrobatics of Pen's goalkeeper, then may well have conceded at least 1 goal. Having survived all this pressure, Pen made a substitute and brought on the experienced Jonathan Thomas, top scorer for the side last year, who scored 2 goals in the final 10 minutes, a close range header, and a stunning overhead kick, that sent the Pen supporters into raptures on the sidelines.

Great scenes!!

Once again an excellent 3-0 win for Pen, in superb conditions to play attractive running football. Goals from Ian, Johnathan, and Mike sealed a more than comfortable win.
